"Yes, Big Boss, I will get to the bottom of it," Damien obliged with a deep bow and was about to turn to leave when he heard his boss saying.
"By the way, provide me information about Anastasia Beverley." Zane demanded when Anastasia crossed his mind for the second time.
Damienen reached for his backpack and carefully retrieved his sleek, black laptop. He relied on it for tracking and conducting background checks on their clients and targets.
Sitting down on the plush sofa, he placed the laptop on the coffee table in front of him. His fingers flew across the keyboard as he entered 'Anastasia Beverley' into the search bar, and a detailed biography of her quickly appeared on the screen.
Damien widened his eyes at the picture of Anastasia Beverley, who looked like the young lady his boss had ordered him to bring the previous day. He wondered why his boss was interested in this woman, knowing his disinterest in women.
Damien cleared his throat and began reading out the information to him. "Anastasia Beverley is from Spain, and she started her acting career as a child. She became a famous artist after she won the International Actress of the Year for a particular movie she shot a year ago from the May entertainment industry. Additionally, she is the heiress of the conglomerate Beverley's group."
"Is there no incident from five years ago?" Zane asked, hoping there was a clue about Anastasia related to Selina.
He didn't seem contented with the information Damien just delivered to him now.
"Yes, there is. Five years ago, she was in Hong Kong shooting a movie." Damien replied.
"Alright, let me see her photos," Zane demanded.
Damien brought the laptop screen closer to him, displaying beautiful photos of Anastasia and other interview clips.
Zane clicked through the photos and videos of Anastasia with heavy makeup. He searched for a video where she had her face without makeup on a screen, but he saw none.
She didn't lie to him about her face not being exposed on media and the internet, Zane thought.
He continued clicking through her throwback photos until his hand stopped clicking at the two photos of Anastasia with her family when she was a teenage, causing Zane's eyes to slightly widen and his eyebrows to narrow in shock.
"How is this possible?" Zane muttered while feeling his heart racing with mixed feelings.
Damien shifted his gaze to his boss and observed sweat had covered his face, who appeared astonished.
"Why are you interested in this actress, Big Boss?" Damien asked politely.
"Anastasia looks like Selina," Zane answered subconsciously while his eyes didn't flinch at her teenage photo.
"I'm sorry to say this, Big Boss. I know very well, more than anyone, that you never felt anything for Ms. Cortez to hallucinate Anastasia to look like her. I saw Anastasia that evening, and there wasn't any resemblance but her voice..." Damien lip's paused when Anastasia's voice from the hallway replayed in his head.
The Anastasia he forcefully carried wore heavy makeup, which made it impossible to detect her genuine face. That means his boss was right, but how was that possible?
"Was it the reason you wanted to meet her? Did you get to see her face?" Damien asked, looking curious.
"Yes, she looked like Selina without a slight difference. Except for her fragrance which scents different." Zane answered, directing his gaze at the outside view.
"I can tell something must happen between you both for your hand injury," Damien said with his gaze lowered to his boss' bandaged left hand. He couldn't imagine what his boss might have done to the famous star after seeing her face.
Zane stared down at his hand, which he smacked on the wall, and the other he used to choke her. "I almost choked her to death last evening because she looks like Selina," Zane muttered.
Damien shook his head in disappointment. "That was cruel to the innocent lady. I know she looks after the woman you loathe most, but you didn't have to go that far to hurt her without confirming her identity first."
Damien understands his boss' enmity and hate towards his ex-deceased wife won't come to an end which he didn't support his boss for his cruel reaction on the famous star.
"I couldn't control my feelings." Zane said, his voice betraying a slight remorse for harming an innocent woman.
With his eyes closed while his slender finger massaged his forehead to feel relieved from the headache hammering in his head as Zane inquired. "Do you think someone can survive such a shot?"
"There are 30% chances and a few cases I have seen. However, based on the angle at which she was shot, there is no chance of survival. Not even a miracle can happen."
"So, how come she looks exactly like her?" Zane was still unable to settle the mystery around Anastasia's existence as he had never experienced such a thing like this.
"Those who look exactly alike are called twin strangers." Damien answered. "Do you feel insecure she will come after you if she eventually survives?"
Damien wondered if that was the reason his boss had to choked the artist because she looked like his ex-deceased wife and might be scared of her retaliation if she did survived. However, it wasn't possible because they confirmed her c*rpse.
Zane snorted at Damien's words, turning around to face him with an emotionless face and a sneer that settled on his lips.
"I'm not scared. And It would be fun If Selina wants to play a dirty game with me, unfortunately, she didn't survive the gun sh*t back then, so she's not here." He replied in a firm tone. "Dig deeper into Anastasia Beverley. I want every bit of information about her, leaving no stone unturned."
"Roger that." Damien bowed deeply before he turned around and walked out of the room to carry out his order.
Zane returned his gaze to the transparent window, glancing at the beautiful view of the hospital from the high floor. Though the scenery didn't seem to captivate his attention, as he was reminiscing about the bittersweet moment between him and Selina.
